Treatment:

For The Final Major Project, I Have Decided That I Want To Create A Podcast About Different Directors. There Will Be Three Episode In Total And Each Episode Will Focus On A New Theme Relating To Different Directors, I Have Decided That I Am Going To Have An Episode On Female Directors, Horror Directors And Neurodivergent Directors. There Will Be Two Different Directors Included In Each Episode Which Will Relate To The Theme That Is Being Talked About, These Will Be Emerald Fennell And Sofia Coppola For The Female Directors Episode, Ti West And Jordan Peele For The Horror Directors Episode And Tim Burton And Greta Gerwig For The Neurodivergent Directors Episode. I Would Also Like To Include A Specific Section Of The Podcast That Will Focus On The Representational Issues That Surround These Directors. As Well As This I Would Like To Add In Interviews At The End Of My Podcast, Having A Guest That Relates To The Topic That Is Being Talked About That Episode. I Do Already Have One Confirmed Interview Which Is For The Episode On Horror Directors And I Am Still Waiting On Conformation For The Other Interview Which Is For The Episode On Female Directors. I Am Not Going To Have An Interview For The Episode On Neurodivergent Directors As I Like To Have A Guest That Relates To The Topic And I Don’t Know Anyone Who Is Neurodivergent Other Than Myself But I Am Already Hosting The Podcast So This Would Not Really Work Out. I Have Also Decided That I Am Going To Have Music Breaks Throughout The Podcast To Break Up The Different Sections, This Will Be The Same As The Intro And Outro Music Which I Have Not Decided On Yet. For The Actual Creation Of My Podcast, I Am Going To Be Using A New Microphone That I Haven’t Used Properly Before But Have Previously Tested Out. This Microphone Comes As Part Of A Podcast Kit And Records The Audio Straight Into The Software That I Am Going To Be Using For Editing Which Is Adobe Audition.

Hello And, Welcome To My Podcast, On This Show We Will Be Looking At Different Directors And The Representational Issues That Surround Them, On Today's Episode We Are Going To Focus On Female Directors Specifically Looking At Emerald Fennell And Sofia Coppola, Let’s Get On With The Show.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Emerald Fennell Is An English Actress, Writer And Director.

She Started Off Acting In Small Roles After She Was Spotted By An Acting Agency Doing Plays At Oxford University.

Throughout The Years She Gained Much Bigger Acting Roles Including Call The Midwife And The Crown.

During This Time, She Also Enjoyed Writing, When She Wasn’t Writing Scripts, She Wrote Books These Were Shiverton Hall, The Creeper And Monsters.

She Ended Up Going On To Become The Head Writer For The Second Season Of Killing Eve.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Her Feature Film, Promising Young Woman Premiered At The Sundance Film Festival In 2020. This Is The Synopsis For The Film By Google “Nothing In Cassie’s Life Is As It Appears To Be – She’s Wickedly Smart, Tantalizing Cunning, And She’s Living A Secret Double Life By Night.

Now, An Unexpected Encounter Is About To Give Cassie A Chance To Right The Wrongs From The Past”

I Had Watched This Film For The First Time Recently And I Personally Enjoyed The Film Which Has Quickly Become One Of My Favourites.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About It Was The Colour Scheme Being Quite Bright Even Though The Themes Of The Film Were Dark And How The Cinematography Was Beautifully Shot Which Brought A Deeper Meaning To The Story.

However, There Were Different Opinions On The Film, It Did Receive Critical Acclaim But There Were Also Some People That Didn’t Like The Film As Much.

Some People Felt Like The Film Erased The Experience Of The Sexual Assault Victim And Focused On Her Friends Feelings Instead.

Also, Some People Felt Like The Ending Didn’t Fit With The Message Of The Rest Of The Film.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Her Latest Film Saltburn Premiered At The Telluride Film Festival In 2023.

This Is The Synopsis For The Film By Google “Troubled By His Classmate’s Unfortunate Living Situation, Wealthy Oxford Student Felix Invites Oliver To Stay At His Estate, But A Series Of Horrifying Events Soon Engulf His Eccentric Family”

This Was My Second Time Watching Saltburn, I Had Watched It When It First Came Out On Prime Video.

I Found That The Second Time Around That I Didn’t Enjoy It As Much But Still Thought That It Was A Great Film.

I Also Thought That Even Knowing The Twists The Film Was Still Exciting And Allowed Me To See All The Foreshadowing That I Had Missed The First Time.

Some Of The Things That I Like About This Film Include The Use Of Reflection Shots For The Character Of Oliver To Foreshadow That He Is Two Faced And The Little Details That Are Scattered Throughout The Film That Contributes Towards The Plot Later.

There Were Also Different Opinions On The Film Some People Really Loved It And It Became Very Popular Over On Social Media Especially With Tik Tok.

However, Some People Thought That The Film Is Overhyped And Has A Flat Plot That Doesn’t Really Lead To Anywhere.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Sofia Coppola Is An American Screenwriter, Producer And Director.

She Started Off With Acting Mainly In Her Father’s, Frances Ford Coppola, Films.

She Got A Lot Of Hate For Her Acting But This Never Really Bothered Her, Especially With The Godfather Part Three Where Critics Said That She Had Damaged Her Own Career And Ruined Her Own Before It Started.

After Trying Different Creative Aspects, She Got Into Directing After Creating A Short Film As It Combined All Of Her Passions Together.

In 1999 Her Debut Film The Virgin Suicides Came Out, This Was A Low Budget Film That Established Her As Her Own Director Outside Of Her Father’s Shadow.

She Has Carried On Creating Films Throughout The Years Some Of These Films Include Somewhere In 2010, The Bling Ring In 2013, On The Rocks In 2020 And Recently Pricilla In 2023.

Most Of Her Films Have A Set Theme That Often Focuses On Things Like Loneliness, Isolation, Wealth, Privilege, Youth, Adolescence And Femininity Often Surrounding The Country America.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Her Second Film, Lost In Translation Premiered At The Telluride Film Festival In 2003.

This Is The Synopsis For The Film By Google “A Lonely, Aging Movie Star Named Bob Harris (Bill Murray) And A Conflicted Newlywed, Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), Meet In Tokyo”

“Bob Is There To Film A Japanese Whisky Commercial; Charlotte Is Accompanying Her Celebrity-Photographer Husband.”

Strangers In A Foreign Land, The Two Find Escape, Distraction And Understanding Amidst The Bright Tokyo Lights After A Chance Meeting In The Quiet Lull Of The Hotel Bar.”

“They Form A Bond That Is As Unlikely As It Is Heartfelt And Meaningful.”

This Was The First Time Watching This Film And I Found That It Was Beautifully Shot, I Had An Understanding What It Was Trying To Say But I Didn’t Enjoy It As Much As I Thought I Would, I Found That It Was A Film That Resorted To Nothing.

There Were Some Different Opinions On The Film As Many Critics Love This Film Rating It Very Highly Where As Other People Have More Of The Same Feeling That I Do.

As Well As This Some People Felt That There Was A Lot Of Negative Stereotypes On How The Japanese And Japan As A Country Were Represented.

There Were Also No Meaningful Roles For The Japanese People That Were Featured In The Film.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Her Next Film, Marie Antoinette Premiered At The Cannes Film Festival In 2006.

This Is The Synopsis For The Film By Google “An Austrian Teenager (Kirsten Dunst Marries The Dauphin (Jason Schwartzman) Of France And Becomes That Country’s Queen Following The Death Of King Louis XV (Judy Davis) In 1774.”

“Years Later, After A Life Of Luxury And Privilege, Marie Antoinette Loses Her Head During The French Revolution.”

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And The First Time That I Had Watched Any Of Her Films.

I Actually Really Enjoyed This Film, Some Of The Things That I Liked About It Was How There Wasn’t Much Talking And Most Of The Story Was Told By Beautiful Shots And Music.

I Also Liked How It Focused On Marie Antoinette As A Person And Her Journey Rather Than Just Focusing On Historical Aspects As This Made Me Feel More Connected To Her Character.

The Film Got Mixed Reviews, Some People Loving The Film And Some People Mainly Being A Lot Of Critics, Hating It.

When It Premiered At The Film Festival There Was A Mixture Of Standing Ovation And Booing.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Another One Of Her Films, The Beguiled Premiered At The Cannes Film Festival In 2017.

This Is The Synopsis For The Film By Google “Cpl. John McBurney Is An Injured Union Soldier Who Finds Himself On The Run As A Deserter During The Civil War.”

“He Seeks Refuge At An All-Female Southern Boarding School Where The Teachers And Students Seem More Than Willing To Help.”

“Soon, Sexual Tensions Lead To Dangerous Rivalries As The Women Tend To His Wounded Leg While Offering Him Comfort And Companionship.”

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And I Really Enjoyed It

Some Of The Things That I Liked About It Was That As I Went In Blind, I Didn’t Really Know What To Expect So I Was Quite Surprised At The Different Twist And I Liked How The Colour Scheme Was Much Darker Than Her Usual Work But You Could Still That She Was The Director As There Were Still Aspects That She Usually Used, For Example Long Establishing Shots.

There Was A Mixture Of Reviews And Controversy For This Film, Some People Thought That Film Was A Feminist Film.

However Other Felt That The Film Was White-Washed Compared To The Original Film And The Book, An African American Character Was Removed From The Film And She Casted Kirsten Dunst For A Character That Was Originally Biracial.

There Was Also Some Criticism For The Characters Having A Lavish Lifestyle Which Took Away The Hardships For Them And Lost Some Of The Importance Of The Topic.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

We Have Now Come To The Section Of The Podcast Where We Look In The Representational Issues That Surround The Directors That Have Been Talked About.

For This Episode We Are Going To Look At The Representation Of Female Directors.

The First Ever Female Director Was Alice Guy-Blaché, She Was Also The First Person To Create A Narrative Film.

She Was Originally A Secretary For Léon Gaumont Who Was A French Inventor And Engineer. One Day She Asked Him If She Could Try And Film A Fictional Scene.

He Thought It Was A Silly Idea But He Let Her Do It As Long As It Didn’t Interfere With Her Work.

That Was When The First Narrative Film Was Created, The Cabbage Fairy In 1896.

It Was A Basic Story About A Couple That Wanted To Have A Baby And It Turned Out To Be A Great Success.

She Was Also The First Woman To Run Her Own Studio And Her Film Company Focused On Challenging Social Norms.

Although She Was A Big Part Of The Film Movement, She Became Forgotten And Was Not Mentioned For The Work That She Had Done.

In Today’s Times Representation For Female Directors Isn’t That Much Better.

Out Of All Of The Oscar Award Shows Only Three Female Directors Have Won An Award In The Best Director Category And Only Eight Have Been Nominated.

These Were Kathryn Bigelow For The Hurt Locker (2009), Chloé Zhao For Nomadland (2020) And Jane Campion For The Power Of The Dog (2022).

Again, Throughout The Years Only Three Female Directed Films Have Won The Award For Best Picture And Only Twenty-Two Have Been Nominated.

These Were Kathryn Bigelow For The Hurt Locker (2009), Chloe Zhao For Nomadland (2020) And Sian Heders For CODA (2021).

This Year Broke The Record For Having Three Films Directed By A Female Director To Be Nominated For Best Picture, Greta Gerwig For Barbie, Celine Song For Past Lives And Justine Triet For Anatomy Of A Fall.

However, Only One Of These Films Has Been Nominated For Best Director, The Rest Of The Nominees Being Male Directors.

That Brings Us To The End Of The Show, I Hope You Have Enjoyed It And Have Learned A Bit More About Female Directors.

On The Next Episode We Will Be Looking At Horror Directors Specifically Focusing On Ti West And Jordan Peele.

Rough Run Through- Episode One:

Explanation-

After I Had Created A Draft Script For Episode One Of My Podcast, I Decided That I Wanted To Do A Rough Run Through So That I Could Test Out The Script Allowing Me To See How Long It Was And How Well It Flowed. I Thought That This Would Be A More Efficient Way To See The Changes That I Needed To Make For The Final Podcast As I Am Able To Listen To It And Pick Up On Aspects That I Might Have Missed Otherwise. Then I Recorded The Entire Script For The First Episode And Roughly Edited It Together So That I Could Get A Vague Idea Of What My Podcast Would Be Like And What I Needed To Change. While Doing This I Didn’t Really Worry About The Quality Of The Audio Or How Good The Editing Was As This Was A Very Rough Cut To Have An Idea Of My Podcast And Not Testing Out The Skills That I Needed, So It Didn’t Really Matter If It Was Really Rough As I Only Wanted To Use It To Help Me With Any Improvements.

Step By Step-

The First Thing That I Did Was Open Up Adobe Audition And Connect A Microphone Up To My Laptop So That I Could Record The Audio That I Needed, I Did This In Parts And Named Each Of The Files So That They Would Be Easier To Find When Editing.

Record Audio.png

Once Everything Had Been Recorded, I Then Clicked On The Multitrack Button Which Is Near The Top Of The Software And Created A Multitrack Mixdown, This Allowed Me To Piece Multiple Audios Together To Create The Podcast.

Create Multitrack Session.png

After I Had Done This, I Went To My Recorded Audio Then Dragged And Dropped The First Part Of My Podcast Into The Multitrack Mixdown, In This Case It Was The Intro.

Drag In Audio.png

When I Had Dragged The Piece Of Audio In, I Then Roughly Cut The Audio. For This Rough Edit I Didn’t Really Focus On Any Of The Smaller Gaps Of Silence And Only Cut The Beginning And End Of The Audio To Keep The Flow Of The Podcast.

Cut Off Beginning And End Excess.png

Finally, I Repeated The Previous Two Steps Of Dragging In The Audio And Then Roughly Cutting It Until I Had Done All Of The Audio That Was Needed To Create The Podcast.

Reflection:

Overall, I Felt That This Rough Run Through, For Episode One, Went Well And Was Extremely Helpful For Me When I Went Onto Create My Final Script. I Had Never Done Something Like This Before When Creating A Podcast Script And Would Usually Just Read Through It Then Make Any Changes That I Could See. However, Having A Rough Run Through Meant That I Was Able To Hear Not Only What Didn’t Make Sense But I Was Also Able To See What Parts Of The Script And The Podcast Would Be Boring Or What Would Work Well. This Made Making The Changes To My Final Script A Lot More Efficient And Effective For The Podcast. When I Go Onto The Real Podcast, I Would Like My Audio And My Editing To Be A Lot Better, As This Was A Very Quick And Rough Cut For The Purpose Of Writing My Final Script. So, Although I Want The Real Thing To Be A Lot Better, I Did Find That Doing This Also Helped Me Almost Get Back Into The Flow Of Podcast Creating As I Was Able To Go Through And Have A Reminder Of Aspects Like The Recording Process And The Start Of The Editing Process For When I Go Onto The Actual Podcast.

Table Read- Feedback:

As A Part Of Making Changes To My Final Podcast I Decided To Do A Table Read, This Was Where I Asked Someone To Listen To My Podcast And Then Give Me Feedback On It. I Used My Rough Run Through Edit Of Episode One And Sent It Over To One Of My Teachers To Listen To And Give Feedback. At This Point I Wanted To See What Was Thought About The Content That I Was Talking About And If The Structure That I Had Used For The Podcast Worked Rather Than What The Podcast Was Like As A Whole. I Decided That I Was Only Going To Send The First Episode For Feedback As I Mainly Wanted To Know What Was Thought About The Structure And The Content Of The Podcast, All Of The Episodes Have A Similar Structure They Just Focus On Different Topics So If The Content And Structure Works For One Episode Then It Will Work For The Other As Well. I Also Decided That I Wanted To Ask One Of My Teachers As I Felt That They Would Be Able To Give The Best Feedback As They Have Taught Podcasts Before And Have Probably Seen A Lot Of Them So They Would Have A Good Idea Of What Is Interesting And What Is Not.

The Feedback That I Was Given:

My Teacher Thought That The Podcast Had Good Content, That I Had A Clear Voice Throughout And That The Topics I Was Talking About Were Interesting.

Some Of The Things That My Teacher Thought That I Could Improve On Was Adding Music Between The Talking To Break Things Up A Bit And When I Talked About A Certain Film, I Should Add A Scene Clip Of The Film Into That Section Of The Podcast.

Reflection:

Overall, I Felt That Having A Table Read For The First Episode And Getting Feedback On It Has Really Helped Me With Not Only Creating The Final Script’s But With The Podcast As A Whole. With The Feedback That Was Given And The Rough Run Throughs That I Did For Each Episode I Have Been Able To Clearly See What Works And What Doesn’t Work For My Podcast. When Asking For Feedback It Allowed Me To Know That The Content, I Was Giving To The Audience Was Interesting And Informative. The Feedback Also Helped Me With Getting New Ideas That I Might Not Have Thought Of Like For Example Adding Scene Clips In When Talking About Specific Films. I Really Like This Idea And Feel That It Would Be Really Effective For My Podcast But I Would Not Have Thought Of The Idea Myself.

Draft Script- Episode Two:

Draft Script-

Intro Music (20 Seconds)

His Film Pearl Premiered At The Venice Film Festival In 2022.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film By Google “Trapped On An Isolated Farm, Pearl Must Tend To Her Ailing Father Under The Watch Of Her Mother.”

“Lusting For The Glamourous Life She’s Seen In Movies, Pearl’s Temptations And Repressions Collide.”

This Was My Second Time Watching Pearl And I Still Really Enjoy It, The Film Is One Of My Favourites And I Think That I Prefer This Film Over X Despite Them Being Very Different Films Even Though They Are In The Same Trilogy.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About The Film Was How They Used Technicolour To Almost Represent Pearl’s Mind And Her Dreams And I Also Liked The Monologue At The End Of The Film As I Felt That It Really Added To Pearl’s Character, It Was Also Quite Effective That It Was Shot All In One Take.

There Were Some Different Opinions On The Film As Some People Loved The Film Like I Did And Pearl Quickly Became An Iconic Horror Girl.

However, Some People Didn’t Like The Film As It Was A Lot Different To X And They Were Expecting Something More Like It, Some Have Found That The Film Was A Let Down As X Is Quite Gory And Pearl Is Very Tame In Comparison.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

His Previous Film X Premiered At The South-By-South West Film Festival In 2022.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film By Google “A Group Of Actors Sets Out To Make An Adult Film In Rural Texas Under The Noses Of Their Reclusive Hosts, But When The Elderly Couple Catches Their Young Guests In The Act, The Cast Finds Themselves In A Desperate Fight For Their Lives”

Again, This Was My Second Time Watching X And Although I Still Really Enjoy And Love The Film, I Didn’t Enjoy It As Much As The First Time I Watched It.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About The Film Was How It Is Dedicated To Love And The Craft Of Filmmaking Throughout The Film And I Also Liked How The Colour Scheme Felt Like Something That Came Out Of A 70s Slasher Film Giving A Big Reference Mainly To The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

There Were Some Different Opinions On The Film Some People Liked The Film And It Quickly Became A Cult Classic Amongst Horror Fans

However, Some People Thought That The Film Could Have Been A Lot Better Than It Was Some Feeling That The Film Hinted At A Lot Of Different Ideas That Were Only Mentioned And Were Never Explored Fully.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Jordan Peele Is An American Comedian, Actor And Director

He Has Also Worked On Both Writing And Producing Which Include BlacKKKlansman, The Last O.G, The Twilight Zone Reboot, Wendell And Wild, He Also Signed On To The Reboot Of The People Under The Stairs.

Music Break (10 Seconds

His Feature Film Get Out Premiered At The Sundance Film Festival In 2017.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film By Google “Now That Chris And His Girlfriend, Rose, Have Reached The Meet-The-Parents Milestone Of Dating, She Invites Him For A Weekend Getaway Upstate With Her Parents, Missy And Dean.”

"At First, Chris Reads The Family’s Overly Accommodating Behaviour As Nervous Attempts To Deal With Their Daughter’s Interracial Relationship, But As The Weekend Progresses, A Series Of Increasingly Disturbing Discoveries Leads Him To A Truth That He Never Could Imagine.”

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And My First Time Watching One Of His Films And I Really Enjoyed It.

Some Of The Things That I Like About The Film Was How There Are Little Details Throughout The Film That Foreshadow The Big Twist And I Also Liked Even Though It Is A Horror Film With Quite A Scary Premises It Didn’t Take It Self Too Seriously And Had Some Comedic Elements.

There Were Some Different Opinions On The Film Some People Liked The Film And It Quickly Gained Critical Acclaim

However, Some People Didn’t Like The Film As Much Feeling That The Third Act Didn’t Have A Satisfying Ending And Was Disappointing For Audiences

Music Break (10 Seconds)

His Next Film Us Premiered At The South-By-South West Film Festival In 2019.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film By Google “Accompanied By Her Husband, Son And Daughter, Adelaide Wilson Returns To The Beachfront Home Where She Grew Up As A Child.”

“Haunted By A Traumatic Experience From The Past, Adelaide Grows Increasingly Concerned That Something Bad Is Going To Happen.”

“Her Worst Fears Soon Became Reality When Four Masked Strangers Descend Upon The House, Forcing The Wilsons Into A Fight For Survival.”

“When The Masks Come Off, The Family Is Horrified To Learn That Each Attacker Takes The Appearance Of One Of Them.”

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And Although I Enjoyed It The Film Wasn’t As Good As I Was Expecting It To Be.

I Felt That Personally There Was So Much Hype For This Film It Didn’t Live Up To The Expectations That I Had. I Can Appreciate It And Thought That Some Of The Points It Was Trying To Make Were Very Clever But It Wasn’t As Good As I Wanted It To Be.

A Part Of This Might Be How I Watched The Film As I Didn’t Give It The Proper Experience So I Do Want To Give It Another Watch At Some Point.

There Were Also Different Opinions On The Film Some People Loved It And It Did Get A Lot Of Critical Acclaim From Both Audiences And Critics

However, Some People Felt That The Film Left A Lot Of Plot Holes That Were Never Explained Which Took Away From The Amount Of Impact The Film Had.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

His Latest Film Nope Premiered At The TCL Chinese Theatre In 2022.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film By Google “A Man And His Sister Discover Something Sinister In The Skies Above Their California Horse Ranch, While The Owner Of A Nearby Theme Park Tries To Profit From The Mysterious, Otherworldly Phenomenon."

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And I Really Enjoyed It

Some Of The Things That I Like About This Film Was How There Were So Many Twists And Turns That I Didn’t See Coming And I Also Liked How There Were Not Many Characters Included So You Were Able To Get To Know Them Which Made You Root For Them More.

There Were Also A Lot Of Opinions On The Film Some People Really Enjoyed It And Thought That It Was One Of The Best Films Of The 21st Century.

However, Some People Felt That There Were Some Flaws In The Film Like How It Is Never Fully Explained About What Logic The Alien Follows Or That It Doesn’t Have The Same Feeling Of Dread That His Other Films Have.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

The First Horror Film Was Made In 1896 By George Méliès Called Le Manor Du Diable, This Film Was Known In English As The Haunted Castle Or The House Of The Devil.

It Was Only Three Minutes Long And Was Thought To Be Lost, It Was Not Created To Scare Audiences But Would Become The Foundations For The Horror Genre.

Throughout The Years There Have Only 25 Horror Films That Have Won An Oscar, These Are Mostly For Things Like Makeup, Art Direction And Visual Effects.

Although This Is A Very Important Part Of Films These Awards Don’t Properly Look At The Film And The Story Itself Like The Best Picture And Best Screenplay Category

Only Six Horror Films Have Been Nominated For Best Picture These Are Jaws In 1975, The Exorcist In 1978, , The Silence Of The Lambs In 1991, The Sixth Sense In 1999, Black Swan In 2010 And Get Out In 2017.

The Silence Of The Lambs Is The Only Horror Film That Has Ever Won Best Picture At The Oscars And Is One Of Three Films That Have Won The Big Five Which Is Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress And Best Screenplay Either Original Or Adapted.

Overall, There Has Only Been 71 Nominees For Horror Films At The Oscars And The Last Nominee Was In 2019.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Rough Run Through- Episode Two:

Explanation:

After I Had Created A Draft Script For Episode Two Of My Podcast, I Then Again Decided That I Wanted To Do A Rough Run Through So That I Could Test Out The Script To See How It Flowed And How Long The Episode Was. I Felt That This Would Be A Useful Way To See What Change I Needed To Make For My Final Script As This Will Allow Me To Listen To It And Pick Up On Anything That Needs To Be Improved That I Might Have Otherwise Missed. Originally, I Decided To Do This With The Draft Script For Episode One And Wanted To Test It Out For Episode Two As It Worked So Well. On Top Of This I Wanted To Do A Rough Run Through Of All The Episodes Of My Podcast As Not Only Will I Be Able To See What Needs To Be Changed For The Final Script Of Episode Two But I Will Also Start To See The Changes That I Need To Make For The Podcast As A Whole.

Step By Step:

The First Thing That I Did Was Open Up Adobe Audition And Connect The Microphone Up To My Laptop So That I Could Record The Audio That Was Needed, I Did This In Sections And Named Each Of Them So It Was Easier To Find When Editing.

Record Audio.png

Once Everything Had Been Recorded, I Then Went To The Top Of The Software And Pressed The Multitrack Button Which Allowed Me To Create A Multitrack Mixdown So That I Was Able To Put All My Audio Together To Make The Podcast.

After I Had Done This, I Then Dragged The First Part Of My Podcast From The Recorded Audio  Into The Multitrack Mixdown, In This Case It Was The Intro.

When This Was Done, I Then Roughly Cut The Audio To The Right Length. For This Edit I Didn’t Really Focus On The Smaller Gaps Of Silence And Only Cut The Audio From The Beginning And The End Of The Audio, Where There Were Big Gaps, So That I Could Help The Podcast Flow Properly.

Finally, I Repeated The Previous Two Steps Of Dragging In The Audio And Cutting It To The Right Length For The Rest Of The Recorded Audio Clips To Create The Full Podcast.

Reflection:

Overall, I Felt That The Rough Run Through, For Episode Two, Went Well And Was Really Helpful When Creating The Final Script. I Had Done This Method Once Before With My First Episode And It Went Really Well So I Wanted To Try This Again With My Second Episode. Before This I Had Never Used This Technique And Would Just Read Through The Script Then Make Any Changes From That, This Wasn’t Very Effective And Meant That I Often Missed Mistakes Or Changes That Needed To Be Made. I Really Like Having A Rough Run Through As It Allows Me To Listen To The Episode And Hear Any Mistakes That I Have Made, This Also Allows Me To Have A Vague Idea Of What My Podcast Is Going To Be Like. This Helps With Not Only Making Sure The Podcast Is The Best That It Can Be But I Am Also Able To See What The Audience Might Currently Like And Dislike About The Podcast So That I Can Make Any Change From This So That I Can Keep Them Engaged. Again, I Do Want To Change The Quality Of The Recorded Audio And How Good The Editing Is For The Final Thing As This Was Really Rough With A Lot Of Mistakes And Was Only Used For The Purpose Of Hearing What The Script Sounded Like Out Loud So I Could Make Any Changes Needed. Although The Audio And The Editing Weren’t The Best That They Could Be, I Felt That Doing This Also Gave A Refresher On Doing Recording And Basic Editing Especially As I Have Not Done This For A While And I Am Using A New Microphone That I Have Never Used Before.

Intro Music (20 Seconds)

Hello And, Welcome To My Podcast, On This Show We Will Be Looking At Different Directors And The Representational Issues That Surround Them, On Today Episode. We Are Going To Focus On Neurodivergent Director Specifically Looking At Tim Burton And Greta Gerwig, Let’s Get On With The Show.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Tim Burton Is An American Producer, Writer, Animator And Director Who Is Autistic.

In His Teenage Years He Made Short Films In His Backyard, These Were Silent Crude Stop Motions That Were Shot In 8mm Film.

“Loving Suburban Saleswoman Peg (Dianne Wiest) Discovers Edward And Takes Him Home, Where He Falls For Peg’s Teen Daughter (Winona Ryder).”

“However, Despite His Kindness And Artistic Talent, Edward’s Hands Make Him An Outcast.”

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And Which I Loved It So Much That It Became One Of My Favourites, I Think That This Film Was Also One Of The Most Beautiful And Relatable Films That I Have Ever Seen.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About This Film Was The Style I Felt That This Deepened The Message Of The Film While Also Making The Aesthetic Look So Beautiful And Stylised And I Also Liked How Relatable And Meaningful This Film Was, I Felt Every Moment So Deeply And Didn’t Expect it To Hit Me So Hard.

There Were Also Some Different Opinions On The Film Some People Think That This Film Is Beautiful And Really Liked It.

However, Some People Feel That Some Of The Characters Weren’t Developed Enough And That The Ending Was A Classic Hollywood Cliché Ending That Took Away From The Meaning Of The Rest Of The Film.

His Film, The Corpse Bride Premiered At The Venice Film Festival In 2005.

“It Belongs To Emily, Who Was Murdered After Eloping With Her Love And Wants To Marry Victor.”

“Victor Must Get Back Aboveground Before Victoria Marries The Villainous Barkis Bittern (Richard E. Grant).”

This Was The First Time Watching This Film And I Really Enjoyed I Thought That It Was A Beautiful Film I Thought That It Was A Mixture Of Fun And Moving Story Telling.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About This Film Was The Art Style It Is The Typical Tim Burton But There Is Something So Special About It And I Also Liked How Even Though The Film Is Seen As A Kids Film The Whole Story Has A Deep Meaning.

There Were Also Some Different Opinions On The Film Some People Really Loved It And Felt That It Was A Heartfelt Film.

However, Some People Didn’t Like The Film As Much, A Lot Of Critics Gave It A Lower Rating Despite Saying That They Enjoyed The Film And Some People Felt That The Film Could Be Skipped.

This Is The Synopsis For The Film By Google “A Nurse Works Tirelessly To Keep Her Family Afloat After Her Husband Loses His Job.”

“She Also Maintains A Turbulent Bond With A Teenage Daughter Who Is Just Like Her: Loving, Strong-Willed And Deeply Opinionated”

This Was The First Time Watching This Film And I Really Enjoyed It But I Did Find That I Enjoyed Her Other Films A Bit More Than This One.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About This Film Was How The Film Focused On The Different Relationships That Surrounded Lady Bird Rather Than Just The Love Interests And I Really Liked That The Cinematography Helped Deepen The Storyline.

There Were Also Some Different Opinions On The Film Some People Really Liked The Film And It Got A Lot Of Critical Acclaim.

However, Some People Felt That There Was A Lack Of Diversity Represented While It Included Diverse Characters They Were Not Well Represented And Were Only Used To Purpose The Main Character.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Her Next Film, Little Women Premiered At The Museum Of Modern Art In New York City In 2019.

“Amy Has A Chance Encounter With Theodore, A Childhood Crush Who Proposed To Jo But Was Ultimately Rejected.”

“Their Oldest Sibling, Meg, Is Married To A Schoolteacher, While Shy Sister Beth Develops A Devastating Illness That Brings The Family Back Together.”

This Was One Of The Many Times That I Have Watched This Film And I Love It So Much, Even Though I Have Watched It Multiple Times I Still Enjoy It Every Time.

Some Of The Things That I Like About This Film Include How The Ending Is Different To The Other Adaptations As I Feel That This Ending Fits Jo’s Character More And How The Film Has A Non-Linear Time Line So It Keeps Going Back And Forth Between Present Time And Childhood Almost Giving A Feel Of Looking Back At A Memory.

There Were Also Different Opinions On The Film Some People Have The Same Opinion As Me And Like How There Are Different Aspects To All The Other Adaptations.

However, Some People Feel That The Non-Linear Timeline Makes It Harder To Follow The Story And It Can Be Confusing At Times For What Period Of Their Life They Are At Which Takes Away From The Story.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Her Latest Film Barbie Premiered At The Shrine Auditorium In Los Angles In 2023.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film By Google “Barbie And Ken Are Having The Time Of Their Lives In The Colourful And Seemingly Perfect World Of Barbie Land.”

“However, When They Get A Chance To Go To The Real World, They Soon Discover The Joys And Perils Of Living Among Humans”

This Again Was One Of The Many Times That I Have Watched, The Love That I Have For This Film Has Made It One Of My Favourites.

Although I Have Watched The Film So Many Times That I Have Lost Count, I Could Never Get Bored Of It And Enjoy The Film Every Single Time.

Some Of The Things That I Like About This Film Include How Important This Film Is, It Brought So Many People Of Different Generations Together And It Was So Amazing Seeing That.

I Could Talk About Things I Love About This Film All Day But Another Thing That I Like Is The Colour Scheme It So Bright And Fun Packed It Disguise The Deeper Message Of The Film That Makes Me Cry Every time.

There Were Also Different Opinions On The Film Some People Loved The Film And It Was Heavily Supported By Both Audiences As Well As A Lot Of Critics.

However, Some People Didn’t Like The Film, Ranging From Aspects Like The Narrative Falling Flat Around The Middle Of The Film And Some People Feeling Like The Film Is Not As Feminist As People Think It Is Noticing Flaws In The Film.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

We Have Now Come To The Section Of The Podcast Where We Look In The Representational Issues That Surround The Directors That Have Been Talked About.

For This Episode We Are Going To Look At The Representation Of Neurodivergent Directors.

There Are Not Many Well Known Directors That People Realise Are Neurodivergent Even Though They Are Out There

There Are Also A Lot Of Directors That Are Speculated To Be Neurodivergent But This Has Never Been Specifically Stated By Them.

Some Directors, Who Are Neurodivergent Include Martin Scorsese Who Is Dyslexic, Steven Spielberg Who Has ADHD, Stanley Kubrick Who Is Autistic, Spike Lee Who Is Dyslexic, Daniel Kwan Who Has ADHD And David F. Sandberg.

Over The Years There Have Been Film Festivals To Specifically Showcase Neurodivergent Voices In Film, The First Ever Film Festival Was Set Up In 2008.

This Was The As Film Festival Which Was Part Of A Larger Program From The Not Equal Association And Came From An Idea That Film Could Be Used As A Way Of Social Inclusion.

There Is Also Not Much Representation For Neurodiversity In Films And Tv Shows, If This Is Included It Is Often Negative And Stereotypical Representation.

In The Past Neurodiversity Especially With Autism Is Presented As Being A Genius In A Certain Subject And Not Being Able To Show Any Emotion. When There Was A Neurodivergent Character, They Would Be Used To Help The Neurotypical Characters Growth.

Some Examples Of Films And Tv Shows That Have Used These Unrealistic And Negative Stereotypes Include Raymond From Rain Man And Sheldon From The Big Bang Theory.

One Of The Controversial Films That Focus On Neurodiversity Is Sia’s Music, She Uses A Neurotypical Actress To Play A Non-Verbal Autistic Character, Throughout The Film The Actress Uses Specific Facial Expressions And Stimming To Make Her Look More Autistic.

There Has Been Some Progress With Autistic Representation In Film And Tv.

There Is An American TV Show Everything’s Going To Be Okay Which Came Out In 2020, The Actress Kayla Cromer Was The First Autistic Person To Play An Autistic Character On American TV.

Another Example Is In 2022 With The Show Heartbreak High Chloe Hayden Was Also The First Autistic Actress To Play An Autistic Character On Australian TV.

There Is Even A Sesame Street Character That Was Added To The Show In 2015, She Is Called Julia And She Is Autistic, This Helps People Understand Autism From A Young Age.

Although There Is Some Progress There Is Still Not Enough Representation For The Neurodivergent Community.

This Brought In The Use Of The Headcanon Which Is Where Neurodivergent People Can Claim A Character That May Present With Neurodiverse Traits But It Not Be Officially Stated In The Film Or Tv Show.

Some Of My Favourite Neurodivergent Headcanons Include Elle Woods From Legally Blonde Being Autistic, Robin Buckley From Stranger Things Being Autistic And ADHD And Harley Quinn Having Bipolar Disorder.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

That Brings Us To The End Of The Show, I Hope You Have Enjoyed It And Have Learned A Bit More About Neurodivergent Directors.

Episode Three- Asset Plan:

Rough Run Through- Episode Three:

Explanation:

After I Had Created A Draft Script For Episode Three Of My Podcast, I Then Again Decided That I Wanted To Do A Rough Run Through To Test Out The Script To See How Long The Podcast Would Be And How Well It Would Flow. I Felt That This Would Be A Good Way To See What Needed To Be Changed For The Final Script As I Will Be Able To Listen To It And Hear If There Is Any Mistakes Or Anything That Needs To Be Changed That I Might Have Otherwise Missed. This Started Off With Me Deciding That I Wanted To Do This With My First Episode, Almost As A Test Of The Script And The Overall Structure Of My Podcast. As This Went So Well, I Decided That I Also Wanted To Do This Method On The Rest Of My Podcast As I Felt That It Was A Very Efficient And Effective Way To Help Create My Final Script. This Again Allowed Me To Test Out The Episodes Individually So That I Could See What Changes I Needed To Make To Episode Three But It Also Allowed Me To Test Out All The Episodes As A Whole To Make Sure That The Podcast Flows Well And Has The Same Structure.

Step By Step:

The First Thing That I Did Was Open Up Adobe Audition And Connect The Microphone Up To My Laptop So That I Could Record The Audio, I Did This In Specific Sections And Named All Of The Files So That They Would Be Easier To Find When Editing.

Record Audio.png

Once I Had Recorded Everything, I Then Went To The Multitrack Button At The Top Of The Software And Clicked On It To Create A Multitrack Mixdown So That I Was Able To Add All Of My Audio Clips To Create The Podcast.

Create Multitrack Session.png

After I Had Done This, I Dragged And Dropped The First Piece Of The Recorded Audio For My Podcast Into The Multitrack Mixdown, In This Case It Was The Intro.

Drag In Audio.png

When This Was Completed, I Then Roughly Cut The Audio. I Only Decided To Cut The Beginning And The End Of The Audio As They Had Big Gaps Of Silence And I Wanted To Keep The Flow Of The Podcast, I Didn’t Focus On The Smaller Gaps Of Silence This Time.

Finally, I Repeated The First Two Steps Where I Dragged In The Audio And Cut It To The Right Length For The Other Audio Clips That I Had Recorded So That I Could Create The Whole Podcast.

Draft Audio- Episode Three

Reflection:

Overall, I Felt That The Rough Run Through, For Episode Three, Went Well And Really Helped Me When I Went Onto Create The Final Script. I Had Used This Method Before For The Other Episodes Of My Podcast And Found That It Was Really Effective. As This Was The Last Episode It Allowed Me To Listen Back To All Of The Episodes And See How They All Flowed Together Being Able To See What Worked Well And What Didn’t Work As Well So That I Could Make Changes To Make Sure All The Episode Have A Similar Structure And Keep The Audience Engaged. This Method Has Helped Me A Lot As I Am Able To Have A Vague Idea Of What My Podcast Could Be Like As Well As Being Able To Notice Any Mistakes Or Changes That Need To Be Made That I Might Have Otherwise Missed Previously By Just Reading Through The Script. For The Final Version, I Again Want To Make Sure The Quality Of Audio And The Editing Is Good, As It Can Be A Lot Better, I Kept The Edit Quite Rough Because It Was Only For Seeing The Content And The Structure Of My Podcast Instead Of For Practicing My Skills. Although The Audio And The Editing Weren’t The Best, I Did Feel That It Gave Me Almost Like A Warm Up For When I Go Onto The Real Thing As I Was Able To Refresh My Skills On Recording And Basic Editing As Well As Getting More Comfortable With The Microphone That I Have Never Used Before.

Final Script-

Intro Music (20 Seconds)

Hello And, Welcome To My Podcast, On This Show We Will Be Looking At Different Directors And The Representational Issues That Surround Them.

On Todays Episode We Are Going To Focus On Female Directors Specifically Looking At Emerald Fennell And Sofia Coppola, Let’s Get On With The Show.

She Ended Up Going On To Become The Head Writer For The Second Season Of Killing Eve.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Her Feature Film, Promising Young Woman Premiered At The Sundance Film Festival In 2020.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film From Google “Nothing In Cassie’s Life Is As It Appears To Be – She’s Wickedly Smart, Tantalizing Cunning, And She’s Living A Secret Double Life By Night. Now, An Unexpected Encounter Is About To Give Cassie A Chance To Right The Wrongs From The Past”

Promising Young Woman Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

I Had Watched This Film For The First Time Recently And I Personally Enjoyed The Film Which Has Quickly Become One Of My Favourites.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About It Was The Colour Scheme Being Quite Bright Even Though The Themes Of The Film Were Dark And How The Cinematography Was Beautifully Shot Which Brought A Deeper Meaning To The Story.

However, There Were Different Opinions On The Film, It Did Receive Critical Acclaim But There Were Also Some People That Didn’t Like The Film As Much.

Some People Felt Like The Film Erased The Experience Of The Sexual Assault Victim, Nina, And Focused On Her Friends Feelings Instead.

Also, Some People Felt Like The Ending Didn’t Fit With The Message Of The Rest Of The Film And Felt Out Of Place.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Her Latest Film Saltburn Premiered At The Telluride Film Festival In 2023.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film From Google “Troubled By His Classmate’s Unfortunate Living Situation, Wealthy Oxford Student Felix Invites Oliver To Stay At His Estate, But A Series Of Horrifying Events Soon Engulf His Eccentric Family”

Saltburn Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

This Was My Second Time Watching Saltburn, I Had Watched It Before When It First Came Out On Prime Video.

I Found That The Second Time Around That I Didn’t Enjoy It As Much But Still Thought That It Was A Great Film And Even With Knowing The Twists Of The Film It Was Still Exciting As It Allowed Me To See All The Foreshadowing That I Had Missed The First Time.

Some Of The Things That I Like About The Film Include The Use Of Reflection Shots For The Character Of Oliver To Foreshadow That He Is Two Faced And The Little Details That Are Scattered Throughout The Film That Contributes Towards The Plot Later.

She Started Off With Acting Mainly In Her Father’s Films And Got A Lot Of Hate For Her Acting But It Never Really Bothered Her.

This Happened Especially With The Godfather Part Three Where Critics Said That She Had Damaged Her Own Career And Ruined Her Own Before It Started.

Most Of Her Films Have A Set Theme That Often Focuses On Things Like Loneliness, Isolation, Wealth, Privilege, Youth, Adolescence And Femininity Often Surrounding America.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Her Second Film, Lost In Translation Premiered At The Telluride Film Festival In 2003.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film From Google “A Lonely, Aging Movie Star Named Bob Harris And A Conflicted Newlywed, Charlotte Meet In Tokyo. Bob Is There To Film A Japanese Whisky Commercial; Charlotte Is Accompanying Her Celebrity-Photographer Husband. Strangers In A Foreign Land, The Two Find Escape, Distraction And Understanding Amidst The Bright Tokyo Lights After A Chance Meeting In The Quiet Lull Of The Hotel Bar. They Form A Bond That Is As Unlikely As It Is Heartfelt And Meaningful.”

Lost In Translation Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And I Found That It Was Beautifully Shot, I Understood What It Was Trying To Say But I Didn’t Enjoy It As Much As I Thought I Would, I Found That It Was A Film That Resorted To Nothing.

There Were Some Different Opinions On The Film As Many Critics Love This Film Rating It Very Highly.

However, Some People Felt That There Was A Lot Of Negative Stereotypes On How The Japanese And Japan As A Country Were Represented.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Her Next Film, Marie Antoinette Premiered At The Cannes Film Festival In 2006.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film From Google “An Austrian Teenager Marries The Dauphin Of France And Becomes That Country’s Queen Following The Death Of King Louis XV In 1774.”

Marie Antoinette Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And I Actually Really Enjoyed This Film.

Some Of The Things That I Like About The Film Was How There Wasn’t Much Talking And Most Of The Story Was Told By Beautiful Shots And Music, I Also Liked How It Focused On Marie Antoinette As A Person And Her Journey Rather Than Just Focusing On Historical Aspects As This Made Me Feel More Connected To Her Character.

The Film Got Mixed Reviews, Some People Loved The Film And Some People Mainly Being A Lot Of Critics Hating It.

When It Premiered At The Cannes Film Festival There Was A Mixture Of Standing Ovation And Booing.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Another One Of Her Films, The Beguiled Premiered At The Cannes Film Festival In 2017.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film From Google “Cpl. John McBurney Is An Injured Union Soldier Who Finds Himself On The Run As A Deserter During The Civil War. He Seeks Refuge At An All-Female Southern Boarding School Where The Teachers And Students Seem More Than Willing To Help. Soon, Sexual Tensions Lead To Dangerous Rivalries As The Women Tend To His Wounded Leg While Offering Him Comfort And Companionship.”

The Beguiled Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And I Really Enjoyed It.

Some Of The Things That I Like About The Film Was That As I Went In Blind, I Didn’t Really Know What To Expect So I Was Quite Surprised At The Different Twists And I Also Liked How The Colour Scheme Was Much Darker Than Her Usual Work But You Could Still Tell That She Was The Director As There Were Still Aspects That She Often Used, For Example Long Establishing Shots.

There Was A Mixture Of Reviews And Controversy For This Film, Some People Thought That Film Was A Feminist Film.

However Other People Felt That The Film Was White-Washed Compared To The Original Film And The Book, An African American Character Was Removed From The Film And She Casted Kirsten Dunst For A Character That Was Originally Bi-Racial.

There Was Also Some Criticism For The Characters Having A Lavish Lifestyle Which Took Away The Hardships They Originally Had Which Lost Some Of The Importance Of The Topic.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

We Have Now Come To The Section Of The Podcast Where We Look Into The Representational Issues Which Surround The Directors That Have Been Talked About.

For This Episode We Are Going To Look At The Representation Of Female Directors.

The First Ever Female Director Was Alice Guy-Blaché, She Was Also The First Person To Create A Narrative Film.

She Was Originally A Secretary For Léon Gaumont Who Was A French Inventor And Engineer, One Day She Asked Him If She Could Try And Film A Fictional Scene, He Thought It Was A Silly Idea But He Let Her Do It As Long As It Didn’t Interfere With Her Work.

That Was When The First Narrative Film Was Created, The Cabbage Fairy In 1896. This Was A Basic Story About A Couple That Wanted To Have A Baby And It Turned Out To Be A Great Success.

She Was Also The First Woman To Run Her Own Studio And Her Film Company Focused On Challenging Social Norms.

Although She Was A Big Part Of The Film Movement, She Became Forgotten And Was Not Mentioned For The Work That She Had Done.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Music Break (10 Seconds)

For The Last Part Of Our Show, We Now Have An Exclusive Interview With A Film Teacher.

Pearl Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

This Was My Second Time Watching This Film And I Still Really Enjoy It, The Film Is One Of My Favourites And I Feel That I Prefer It Over X Despite Them Both Being Very Different Films.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About This Film Was How They Used Technicolour To Almost Represent Pearl’s Mindset And Her Dreams, I Also Liked The Monologue At The End Of The Film As I Felt That This Added More Depth To Pearl’s Character.

There Were Some Different Opinions On The Film, Some People Loved The Film And Pearl Quickly Became An Iconic Horror Girl.

However, Some People Didn’t Like The Film As Much Because It Was Very Different To X And They Wanted Something Similar, Some Felt That The Film Was A Let Down As They Were Expecting A Lot More.

X Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

Again, This Was My Second Time Watching X And Although I Still Really Enjoy And Love The Film, I Didn’t Enjoy It As Much As The First Time.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About This Film Was How It Is Dedicated To Love And The Craft Of Filmmaking, I Also Liked How The Colour Scheme Felt Like Something Out Of A 70s Slasher Film Mainly Giving A Reference To The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

There Were Also Some Different Opinions On The Film Some People Liked It And It Quickly Became A Cult Classic Amongst Horror Fans.

However, Some People Thought That The Film Could Have Been Better, There Was A Lot That Was Hinted At Or Mentioned But Was Never Explored Fully.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Get Out Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And My First Time Watching One Of His Films And I Really Enjoyed It.

Some Of The Things That I Like About This Film Was How There Are Little Details Throughout That Foreshadow The Twists And I Also Liked How Even Though It Is A Horror Film With Quite A Scary Premises It Didn’t Take It Self Too Seriously And Had Some Comedic Elements.

There Were Some Different Opinions On The Film Some People Liked It And It Quickly Gained Critical Acclaim.

However, Some People Didn’t Like The Film As They Felt That The Third Act Didn’t Have A Satisfying Ending Which Was Disappointing For The Audience.

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And Although I Did Enjoy It, The Film Wasn’t As Good As I Was Expecting It To Be.

I Felt That I Personally Created So Much Hype For This Film That It Didn’t Live Up To The Expectations That I Had. I Can Appreciate It And I Am Still Thinking About The Film As Some Of The Points That It Made Were Very Clever But It Wasn’t As Good As I Wanted It To Be.

A Part Of This Feeling Could Be How I Watched The Film, As I Didn’t Give It The Proper Experience So I Would Like To Give It Another Watch At Some Point.

There Were Also Some Different Opinions On The Film, Some People Loved It And It Got A Lot Of Critical Acclaim From Both Audiences And Critics.

However, Some People Felt That The Film Left A Lot Of Plot Holes That Were Never Explained Which Took Away From The Impact The Film Had.

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And I Really Enjoyed It

Some Of The Things That I Like About This Film Was How There Were Not Many Characters Included Which Allows You To Get To Know Them And Feel More Connected To Them, I Also Liked How The Film Has Stuck In My Mind And I Am Still Thinking Every Detail Over Since Watching It.

There Were Also Some Different Opinions On The Film, Some People Really Enjoyed It And Thought That It Was One Of The Best Films Of The 21st Century.

However, Some People Felt That There Were Some Flaws In The Film Like How The Aliens Logic Is Never Fully Explained And How It Doesn’t Have The Same Feeling Of Dread That His Other Films Have.

We Have Now Come To The Section Of The Podcast Where We Look Into The Representational Issues That Surround The Directors That Have Been Talked About.

For This Episode We Are Going To Look At The Representation Of Horror Directors.

The First Horror Film Was Made In 1896 By George Méliès Called Le Manor Du Diable, This Film Was Known In English As The Haunted Castle Or The House Of The Devil.

It Was Only Three Minutes Long And Was Thought To Be Lost, It Was Not Created To Scare Audiences But Would Become The Early Foundations For The Horror Genre.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Throughout The Years There Have Only Been 25 Horror Films That Have Won An Oscar, These Are Mostly For Things Like Makeup, Art Direction And Visual Effects.

Although This Is A Very Important Part Of These Films, Especially In The Horror Genre, The Awards Don’t Properly Look At The Film And The Story Itself Like The Best Picture And Best Screenplay Category.

There Has Only Ever Been Six Horror Films That Were Nominated For Best Picture These Are Jaws In 1975, The Exorcist In 1978, , The Silence Of The Lambs In 1991, The Sixth Sense In 1999, Black Swan In 2010 And Get Out In 2017.

The Silence Of The Lambs Is The Only Horror Film That Has Ever Won Best Picture At The Oscars And Is One Of Three Films That Have Won The Big Five Award Which Is Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress And Best Screenplay Either Original Or Adapted.

Overall, There Has Only Been 71 Nominees For Horror Films At The Oscars And The Last Nominee Was In 2019.

Edward Scissorhands Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And I Really Loved It, I Think That The Film Was So Beautiful And One Of The Most Relatable Films That I Have Ever Seen.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About This Film Was The Style It Looked So Beautiful And Was Heavily Stylized Which I Felt Deepened The Message Of The Film And I Also Liked How Meaningful This Film Was I Felt Every Moment So Deeply And I Didn’t Expect It To Hit Me So Hard.

There Were Some Different Opinions On The Film Some People Really Like The Film And Thought That It Was Relatable.

However, Some People Felt That Some Of The Character Weren’t Devolved Enough And Felt That The Ending Was A Classic Hollywood Cliché Ending That Took Away The Meaning Of The Rest Of The Film.

Corpse Bride Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And I Really Enjoyed It, I Thought That It Was A Mixture Of Both Moving Storytelling And A Bit Of Fun.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About This Film Was The Art Style, It Was The Typical Tim Burton Style But There Is Something So Special About It And I Also Liked How Even Though This Film Could Be Seen As A Kids Film The Whole Story Has A Deeper Meaning.

There Were Also Some Different Opinions On The Film Some People Really Liked It And Thought That It Was A Heartfelt Film.

However, Some People Didn’t Like The Film As Much, A Lot Of Critics Gave It A Lower Rating Despite Saying In Their Review That They Enjoyed The Film And Some People Felt That This Was A Tim Burton Film That Could Be Skipped.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film From Google “A Nurse Works Tirelessly To Keep Her Family Afloat After Her Husband Loses His Job. She Also Maintains A Turbulent Bond With A Teenage Daughter Who Is Just Like Her: Loving, Strong-Willed And Deeply Opinionated”

Lady Bird Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

This Was My First Time Watching This Film And Although I Did Enjoy It, I Found That I Enjoyed Her Other Films A Little Bit More.

Some Of The Things That I Liked About This Film Was It How It Focused On The Different Relationships That Surrounded Lady Bird Instead Of Just. The Love Interests And I Also Liked How The Cinematography Added To The Storyline.

There Were Some Different Opinions On The Film Some People Really Liked The Film And It Got A Lot Of Critical Acclaim.

However, Some People Felt That There Was A Lack Of Diversity Represented, While It Did Include Diverse Characters They Were Not Well Represented And Were Only There To Purpose The Main Character.

Her Next Film, Little Women Premiered At The Museum Of Morden Art In New York City In 2019.

Little Women Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

This Was One Of The Many Times That I Have Watched This Film And I Love It So Much, Even Though I Have Watched It A Lot I Find That I Still Enjoy It Every Time.

Some Of The Things That I Like About This Film Was How The Ending Is Different To The Other Adaptations, I Feel That This Ending Fits Jo’s Character More And I Also Liked How The Film Has A Non-Linear Time Line Which Means That It Keeps Going Back And Forth Between Present Time And Childhood Giving A Feel Of Looking Back At A Memory.

There Were Also Different Opinions On The Film Some People Have The Same Opinion As Me And Liked How There Were Different Aspects To All The Other Adaptations.

However, Some People Felt That The Non-Linear Timeline Made It Harder To Follow The Story And Can Often Be Confusing To What Period Of Their Life They Are At Which Takes Away The Flow From The Story.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

Her Latest Film Barbie Premiered At The Shrine Auditorium In Los Angles In 2023.

This Is The Synopsis Of The Film From Google “Barbie And Ken Are Having The Time Of Their Lives In The Colourful And Seemingly Perfect World Of Barbie Land. However, When They Get A Chance To Go To The Real World, They Soon Discover The Joys And Perils Of Living Among Humans”

Barbie Scene Clip (10 Seconds)

This Again Was One Of The Many Times That I Have Watched This Film, The Love That I Have For It Has Made It One Of My Favourites Of All Time.

Although I Have Watched This Film A Lot, I Could Never Get Bored Of It And Enjoy It Every Single Time.

Some Of The Things That I Like About This Film Was How Important It Was It Brought So Many People Of Different Generations Together And It Was So Amazing Seeing That, I Also Liked How The Colour Scheme Was Bright And Fun Packed Which Disguised The Deeper Message That The Film Had.

There Were Also Different Opinions On The Film Some People Loved The Film And It Was Heavily Supported By Both Audiences As Well As A Lot Of Critics.

However, Some People Didn’t Like The Film Ranging From Reasons Like They Felt The Narrative Fell Flat Around The Middle Or They Felt That The Film Was Not As Feminist As People Are Making It Out To Be.

We Have Now Come To The Section Of The Podcast Where We Look Into The Representational Issues That Surround The Directors That Have Been Talked About.

For This Episode We Are Going To Look At The Representation Of Neurodivergent Directors.

There Are Not Many Well Known Directors That People Realise Are Neurodivergent

There Are Also A Lot Of Directors That Are Speculated To Be Neurodivergent But This Has Never Been Specifically Stated By Them.

Some Directors, Who Are Neurodivergent Include Martin Scorsese Who Is Dyslexic, Steven Spielberg Who Has ADHD, Stanley Kubrick Who Is Autistic, Spike Lee Who Is Dyslexic, Daniel Kwan Who Has ADHD And David F. Sandberg Who Is Autistic.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

There Is Also Not Much Representation For Neurodiversity In Films And Tv Shows, If This Is Included It Is Often Stereotypical And Negative Representation.

In The Past Neurodiversity, Especially With Autism, Is Often Presented As Being A Genius And Not Being Able To Show Any Emotion.

When There Was A Neurodivergent Character, They Would Usually Be Used To Help The Neurotypical Characters Growth.

Some Examples Of Films And Tv Shows That Have Used These Unrealistic And Negative Stereotypes Include Raymond From Rain Man And Sheldon From The Big Bang Theory.

One Of Most Controversial Films That Focus On Autism Is Sia’s Music, She Uses A Neurotypical Actress To Play A Non-Verbal Autistic Character And Throughout The Film The Actress Uses Specific Facial Expressions And Stimming To Make Her Look More Autistic.

There Has Been Some Progress With Autistic Representation In Film And Tv.

There Is An American TV Show Called Everything’s Going To Be Okay Which Came Out In 2020, The Actress Kayla Cromer Was The First Autistic Person To Play An Autistic Character On American TV.

Another Example Is In 2022 With The Show Heartbreak High, Chloe Hayden Was Also The First Autistic Actress To Play An Autistic Character On Australian TV.

There Is Even A Sesame Street Character That Was Added To The Show In 2015, She Is Called Julia And She Is Autistic, This Helps People Understand Autism From A Young Age.

Although There Is Some Progress There Is Still Not Enough Representation For The Neurodivergent Community.

This Brought In The Use Of The Headcannon Which Is Where Neurodivergent People Can Claim A Character That May Present With Neurodiverse Traits But It Is Not Officially Stated In The Film Or Tv Show.

Some Of My Favourite Neurodivergent Headcannons Include Elle Woods From Legally Blonde Being Autistic, Robin Buckley From Stranger Things Being Autistic And ADHD And Harley Quinn Having Bipolar Disorder.

Music Break (10 Seconds)

That Brings Us To The End Of The Show, I Hope You Have Enjoyed It And Have Learned A Bit More About Neurodivergent Directors.

I’m Libby And I’ve Been Your Host, Thank You For Listening To The Podcast
